Note: Last month, I posted an article on the topic of moving into perfect balance by becoming a self-corrector the moment you go out of balance. I highly recommend reading it, if you haven’t yet, as it will help ground you in this topic before continuing with part two below.
(Link to part one of Moving into Perfect Balance – click to follow.)Balance feels good. More than that, balance is good for us and has far reaching positive impacts on our daily lives in innumerable ways.
When we are able to spot and stop energy swings that throw us off balance it is cause for celebration. What if there is a way to prevent those swings from occurring in the first place?
Here are the three guiding principles that I recommend for moving further into balance.
1: Look at what negatively affects your balance.
You worked through being able to self-correct your negative thoughts, emotions, or fears in the moment – but let’s dive deeper. Using meditation and/or journaling ask your inner-self questions like, “Why I am allowing this to occur?” Be deeply honest with yourself if it’s a reaction from a bruised ego, pride, or even some deeply held frustration at yourself. Your reason will be unique to you and your journey – but once you understand it, you have a powerful tool to prevent its ability to reoccur.

Once you’ve discovered that root cause, ask, “Is this reason worth me negatively impacting my health, vitality, and contentment?" In the vast majority of situations the answer will be a resounding ‘no’. So, how can you change this root issue that nudges you out of balance?
2. You have choice in how you lead your life.
Continual balance is created. You have choice in whether you modify, change, adjust, or create the elements of your life to achieve peace and balance every day - yes every day!
God did not make you to be a work horse, a people pleaser, or the savior of all things and people. Nor did God make you to strive for perfection all the time, causing you exhaustion and ill health. God made you to love yourself first; everything else is second. Center your life around you as only you can do that for yourself.
3. Re-evaluate what is essential to you.
Do you live your life making everything else more essential than you and your balance? Your balance is most essential, not just nice to have. Without balance we are more prone to become sick, grumpy, exhausted, and unable to think clearly. Why continue to push yourself when your body and mind need a break? Why don’t you allow yourself to recharge throughout the day? When you manage your energy, you more easily can maintain your balance.
Take a minute right now to imagine yourself immersed in a calm pool of water. Feel the calming and relaxing sensation it brings. Allow yourself to relax.
This exercise is a great way to calm down when you are stressed or need to focus. However, the magic happens when you proactively make this 3-5 minute excise part of a daily calmness routine. It will invite in a more relaxed feeling within you throughout each day. Make a commitment to incorporate this or something similar for a few minutes several times a day, whether you are stressed or not!
With time, it becomes part of who you are and allows you to navigate your choices from a calm center. This mindset allows you to focus on your balance – as you are acting on it from a place of clarity and emotional peace. You will find yourself feeling like you are no longer trying to achieve balance. Instead, you are easily becoming balance.
Each of these three principles begin with choice. Why not consciously choose you and the ongoing balance of you. Make this a top priority each day.
